Description | Melissa LaVone Meeks Artist Statement I enjoy making artwork that is dimensional; my preferred subject is a merging of the natural organic world and the bio-mechanical future. I attempt to transform ordinary organic objects into extraordinary experimentation's. I am moved to find beauty in the ragged edges of materials by incorporating found objects into my work. Having a coastal background, it informs the color and shapes that are part of the design of a variety of mediums I use. Blues, greens and pinks dominate my art, as well as organic and curvilinear shapes. I am interested in creating art that is experimental, poetic and political in content. I like to challenge the viewer to see things differently. I have no illusions that art will create a revolution, but I have witnessed the powerful changes it can make in an individual. Just one new idea can change an individual’s perception. Surprises in art are what keep me going, and keeps me creating. |
